I walked into the theatre to
see the newest edition of the Rocky franchise
having never actually seen any of the Rocky
movies. Of course, as a sports fan, I know about the movies. Rocky Balboa loses
to Apollo Creed in the first movie, beats him in the second, and then new
opponents come in to the picture for the following movies. After watching the
opening minutes of the movie, I realized that I was going to enjoy every minute
that was to follow.
Creed turns
the table on the previous Rocky movies
by casting Rocky not as the fighter (of course not, Sylvester Stallone is 69
years old,) but as the trainer. Adonis Johnson, son of the late Apollo Creed,
seeks out Rocky in Philadelphia to train him in boxing. This movie incorporates
a great mix of action, anguish, romance, and suspense. The music incorporated
made the movie better, if it could possibly have gotten any better. By the time
the credits rolled and I was walking out of the theatre, I felt like I could
break the world record in the marathon at that very second. This movie is a
must see, even if you’ve never seen any of the previous Rocky movies. Five stars.
